Swedish for immigrants (SFI)
Swedish for immigrants (SFI) is divided into four courses and three study paths. Swedish for immigrants in Håbo are run in cooperation with Upplands-Bro municipality.
The SFI education teaches you the basics of the Swedish language. You will gain knowledge about Swedish society and learn to speak, read, and write in Swedish, as well as practice using the language in everyday life and at work.
After completing the SFI program, it is possible to continue studying Swedish as a second language in compulsory adult education. Compulsory education consists of courses for adults that teach classes equivalent to years 1 to 9.
You have the right to study Swedish for Immigrants (SFI) if you:
- Start the program or course no later than July 1 in the year you turn 16
- Need basic knowledge of Swedish
- Are a registered resident of Håbo municipality or have a valid Swedish personal identification number (personnummer)
If you are a citizen of a country outside the EU/EEA, you may, in some cases, be eligible to study SFI even if you are not registered in Sweden.
Applying to SFI (Swedish for immigrants)
Attach the following to your application:
- Your grades from earlier studies
- Any other certificates required for the course
- Any additional information you want us to consider
The processing time for a complete application is 2-4 weeks. It is important that your application is submitted before the application deadline for the program or course you are applying to.
Håbo Adult Education will make a decision and send it to you, as well as to the educational provider of the program or course you applied to.
The information will be sent to the email address you provided in the application, so be sure to check your spam folder.
Applying to educational programs outside the cooperation area
If you are registered in Håbo municipality but wish to study a program or course that is not available in Håbo or the municipalities in the cooperation area, you can search for courses in other counties yourself.
To apply for educational programs or courses in other counties:
- Visit the website of the county offering the program and apply there
- Save your application and upload it to the Håbo municipality web service
Håbo Adult Education will decide whether we will provide financial support for that educational program. The decision will be sent to you and to the county where you applied.
The county you applied to will inform you whether you were accepted into the course or program you applied to.
Course catalogue
Håbo municipality cooperates with Upplands-Bro municipality to offer SFI courses. This means that on-site classes are held in Kungsängen.
The different study paths offer courses at varying speeds. The course you are offered depends on your knowledge and educational background, with the aim of ensuring you attend a course that allows you to progress at a pace that suits you.
Swedish for Immigrants (SFI)
SFI is divided into four courses:
- SFI A: For people without education in their country of origin
- SFI B: For people with some education in their country of origin
- SFI C: For people with higher education in their country of origin
- SFI D: The final SFI course
Study Path 1
For students with little to no formal education. This path allows for a longer course duration.
Study Path 1 includes the courses SFI A, SFI B, SFI C, and SFI D. This path is classroom-based.
Study Path 2
For students with a relatively short educational background. The course duration is shorter than Study Path 1.
Study Path 2 is classroom-based.
Study Path 3
For students with a background in higher education. This is the shortest course duration.
Study Path 3 includes the courses SFI C and SFI D. Distance learning is an option for students in Study Path 3.
